Mark Buehrle set the tone to what has been a dominating start to the season with a near-shutout victory over Tampa Bay back in early April. Grant Fuhr Maple Leafs Jersey . The veteran will now shoot for his Major League-leading ninth victory of the campaign against the club as the Toronto Blue Jays play the middle contest of a three-game set on Tuesday night versus the Rays. Buehrle went 12-10 in 33 starts with the Blue Jays last season, posting a 4.15 earned run average in his first season with the franchise. However, he has appeared more comfortable in 2014, going 8-1 through 10 starts with a 2.16 ERA. He has not allowed more than two runs in nine of those outings and at 35 years of age is the oldest pitcher to win at least eight of his first 10 starts since both Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling went 8-1 in 2002 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Buehrles season began with a victory over Tampa Bay on April 2, when he struck out a season-high 11 batters over 8 2/3 scoreless innings. That improved the hurler to 9-5 with a 4.21 ERA in 23 career meetings with the Rays, 18 of those starts. The left-handed Buehrle has won four straight decisions since suffering his only loss of the season on April 25 versus Boston. He got revenge for that setback last time out on Thursday, limiting the Red Sox to a pair of runs over seven frames of a 7-2 win. In the process, he became baseballs first eight-game winner and only St. Louis Adam Wainwright has been able to join him since. "Its nice, obviously," Buehrle said. "I try to throw it out the window and get ready for my next start." Buehrle should have some room to work with tonight if the Blue Jays can continue their hot hitting. Toronto went deep three times in Mondays 10-5 series-opening win, giving the club a homer in nine straight games and an MLB- high 73 home runs on the season. Edwin Encarnacion hit a solo homer versus the Rays and has hit nine homers over his last 11 games. He has also gone deep 13 times in May, breaking Jose Bautistas 2010 club record for most homers in the month. Dioner Navarro and Steve Tolleson hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning in Torontos seventh straight victory and 10th in its past 11 games. That bailed out starter Drew Hutchison, who got the win despite giving up five runs over five innings. "Nothing was good, nothing was sharp," Hutchison said. The Rays had a four-game winning streak snapped despite getting home runs from Desmond Jennings, James Loney and David DeJesus as starter Erik Bedard yielded eight runs and 13 hits in four-plus frames. "They just put the heavy gloves on and beat us up tonight," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. That kind of output could be enough to win tonight given Alex Cobbs current 21 2/3 scoreless-innings streak he carries into this start. That run is the third-longest in team history, behind Matt Moores 22 1/3-inning stretch last season and James Shields club-record mark of 23 consecutive innings set in 2011. Cobb has not allowed a run since giving up four over five innings of a loss to Toronto on April 1 in his first start of the season, dropping to 2-1 lifetime with a 2.95 ERA versus Toronto. The 26-year-old followed up that loss to the Blue Jays with consecutive scoreless outings before a trip to the disabled list caused by a left oblique strain. He returned to action for the first time in nearly six weeks on Thursday and shut out Oakland over 6 2/3 innings, scattering three hits and two walks while fanning six in a no-decision. "He was outstanding," said Maddon of Cobb, who is 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA on the year. "Having been off as long as he had, you saw the stuff, the strike throwing, the competitive nature." The Blue Jays have won three of five versus the Rays this season. Bruce Boudreau Jersey .Former NBA forward Morris Peterson has been added to TSNs Toronto Raptors broadcast team. JOHNS, N. http://www.mapleleafsteamstoreonline.com/authentic-kris-versteeg-maple-leafs-jersey/ . -- Downcast before the final game of what had been a difficult road trip, the Ottawa Senators found a way to dig out a little momentum in the desert before heading home.ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Angels caught up with Bartolo Colon on Sunday. Mike Trout, Pujols and Raul Ibanez hit consecutive home runs off Colon in the first inning and the Angels routed the New York Mets 14-2. "Anytime you can hit three home runs in a row, thats pretty special. Ive been through that before in my career," Pujols said. "Everybody knows what Bartolo is going to do -- 95 per cent of his pitches are fastballs and he pounds the strike zone." Hank Conger also went deep against Colon, who won the AL Cy Young Award in 2005 with the Angels. Over the previous four seasons, he was 6-1 with a 1.75 ERA in nine starts against the Angels. "Hes had our number, but today wasnt his day," Pujols said. "Hes a guy whos aggressive in the strike zone and we executed our game plan pretty well. If you look at last year, it seemed like every time we faced him he pretty much pitched seven or eight strong innings. So we wanted to get the jump on him early." The Angels also hit a pair of doubles in the first inning against Colon (1-2). Colon gave up nine runs and 11 hits in five innings, allowing at least one hit to every batter in the Angels starting lineup after pitching seven scoreless innings last Tuesday night in Atlanta. "At that moment, youre not thinking: Why is this happening? Its just part of the game," Colon said through a translator. "Everything felt all right. They just felt a little bit better than me." The four homers and nine earned runs against the 40-year-old Colon equaled a career worst in both categories. "Even though Bartolos had our number, it seems like all the runs we scored off him today were the ones weve needed the last two years off of him," Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson said. "Hes absolutely dominated us, and today was a complete aberration. Ive never seen him get hit like that before in person." Wilson (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. Mets third baseman David Wright and secoond baseman Daniel Murphy were ejected in the top of the seventh by plate umpire Toby Basner. Bruce Boudreau Maple Leafs Jersey. Wright and Murphy were called out on strikes earlier in the game. Both took exception after Basner called out Travis dArnaud at-bat. It was the fourth career ejection for Wright and the first for Murphy. "Im not going to comment on the umpires. Im not going to get into any more trouble than Im already in. Ive said my peace down on the field and Im just going to leave it at that," Wright said. "We have each others backs. And when something happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. There were some disagreements. Its frustrating," he said. Wilson got seven of his strikeouts on called strikes. "You cant really get a scouting report on the umpires and try to change too much with that. You have to pitch to the hitters," Wilson said. "But it wasnt like the guy had some crazy strike zone. Its just that they were up there looking for pitches that I wasnt throwing, which is why they took the strike three calls." During the singing "God Bless America" in the seventh-inning stretch, Mets manager Terry Collins stood next to Basner at home plate. The two could be seen chatting. The Angels came out swinging and got all three of their homers in a span of seven pitches. Trout drove his fourth of the season into the centre field trees with one out and Pujols hit his third into the left field bullpen. Ibanez, who hit a tying, three-run shot off closer Jose Valverde in the ninth inning Saturday night for his 2,000th career hit, connected against Colon before the Angels added another run on doubles by Kole Calhoun and Ian Stewart. Stewart later homered. NOTES: The Angels hit three straight homers for the first time since July 27, 2009, when Juan Rivera, Kendrys Morales and Mike Napoli did it. ... Colon was the first Mets pitcher to yield three in a row since June 8, 2012, at Yankee Stadium, when Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones connected against Johan Santana. ' ' '
